NACRJ Announces Adoption of DEIJ Resolution and Formation of DEIJ Committee

The National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) is proud to announce the adoption of a formal statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ), affirming its ongoing and deepening commitment to these values. In addition, NACRJ is establishing a DEIJ Committee to further advance and implement these principles across the organization and in its broader community and restorative justice efforts.

"Throughout our strategic planning processes over the past few years, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice have consistently been identified as the core foundation of everything we aim to achieve at NACRJ," said Joel Friesz, NACRJ Executive Director. "To deepen our commitment and ensure intentionality, NACRJ has adopted a formal resolution affirming these principles and is establishing a DEIJ Committee. This committee will help identify priority areas both within the organization and in our broader efforts."

As part of this commitment, the newly formed DEIJ Committee will be tasked with advancing DEIJ values and identifying strategies for continuous improvement. The committee will focus on promoting collaborative partnerships and ensuring that DEIJ initiatives are meaningfully implemented at every level of NACRJ’s operations.

The DEIJ resolution includes key commitments to:

  • Diversity: Actively seeking and being led by diverse voices and perspectives across race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and more.
  • Equity: Dismantling systemic barriers to ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.
  • Inclusion: Creating inclusive environments where every individual feels valued and heard.
  • Justice: Promoting restorative justice principles of accountability, healing, and community-building.

NACRJ will regularly assess its progress in fulfilling these goals, ensuring accountability and transparency as it continues to evolve its DEIJ efforts. The DEIJ Committee will play a pivotal role in guiding this work and fostering ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and community partners.
